You are correct that I don't mean to back up the claim that the media made up the shootings. But he denies making the claim, and I don't see it, though I guess he could have edited out. My intention was just to attempt to answer your question of why does someone who doesn't trust anyone trust someone on Youtube. Not to say one should.
Another way for me to put it is to say that when someone believes that they cannot tell when the normal news sources are being truth full, they really have limited options. One of those is going to be to look for people they think are like them, because they look like them, or say things with which they agree. But the less they know, and the less well they can reason, the less they can judge them based on their logic, or coherence to anything but their beliefs. So in a sense, when they trust someone on Youtube, they are trusting themselves.
And while I encourage skepticism of the media, I don't think it is as bad as he does.
